Manic Monday

Monday, February 4, 2013

This morning Jack and I slept until about 500 am, we did have two feeds during our short sleep.  We got a weight this morning, with his harness on he is 7lbs, 12 oz, so he is still gaining weight! Yay!

Dr. Knapp, Dr. Crawford, and Dr. Herrera came in this morning from ortho. Dr. Knapp is happy with the harness and how it is working, so we shall hear more after the ultra sound. The ultra sound went smoothly. Jack didn’t cry at all this time, so I am so glad for that. Of course since the docs all came this AM I didn’t expect to hear from them until the morning, which sucks. I am hoping they see what they want to see. Dr. Jordan from ID came in and was concerned that Jack’s sed rate had increased but the CRP and CBC looked good, with the fever (low grade but there) he has had on and off the elevation is concerning. He thinks there still may be some infection in that hip. He is repeating the labs on Wednesday to keep it monitored.

The rest of the day was fairly quiet until it was time to try the TpA for the PICC line. The PICC line was clogged with a little blood clot, so they use a medication to see if they can break up the clot and save the line. This didn’t work. So they had to remove the PICC…, which involves peeling very sticky tape out of my pour son’s hair. Needless to say, he wasn’t super happy.  Then the IV line they put in last night, wouldn’t flush. Awesome. But with some repositioning by another nurse, it worked just fine.  However, a more permanent solution will have be discovered. There is talk of a Broviac central line, for this Jack would be put under again and the line placed in his chest versus his head. All the lines would come out of his head. I’m hoping there is another choice, but it is a common practice in these little guys.

Lisa, Jack’s evening nurse was great, she came in and talked with me for a while after she was done getting report and vitals for the turn of the shift. It was great actually. So far the care here at APH has been great. I can’t complain. Now we are just waiting on JR to get home, and really just be done with today. I am hoping that tomorrow we hear some more uplifting news.

“God doesn’t give us more than we can handle.” That will give me peace tonight, as we prepare to take on another day here at APH. Your prayers and thoughts continue to keep us going. It is amazing how much support we have.  Today Jack got some beautiful flowers from Tanna, Jeff, and Ollie, we love them! Thank you!
