Restful Tuesday

Tuesday February 5, 2013

Jack and I had a great night, he was wide awake for a few hours to play from like 2-5 am. Then we had a second awesome playtime after breakfast. Then Jack, slept. He is reacting to sounds and lights so much right now. It is awesome to watch him, and to watch the faces he makes.

Dr. So and So (one of the ortho people, new guy, didn’t catch his name) came to round on Jack early. Let us know that Dr. Knapp would be in later. The ultra sound showed that the hip was going towards the right direction, but there is still possibly something keeping it from going in the right now. When Dr. Knapp came in, he basically said we  need that second surgery for multiple reasons. He basically said that he wants to clean out what may be residual fluid and “gunk” from before. He also would like to set his hip, instead of relying on the brace to guide it into place with the possibility of it healing wrong and needing a more evasive and painful surgery later. Then they also want to put the Broviac central line in for the last 17 days of antibiotics.

Dr. Jordan, the infections disease (ID) guy came in to basically discuss the same surgery but in regards to the fluid and the Broviac. Then the general surgeon came in, another young attractive staff member here at APH. Seriously, it must be a prerequisite.  He explained the central line.

I reached out to Terry and Jen from PTA in regards to the second surgery. Both of them are a vast knowledge regarding ped ortho kiddos and I am so grateful to have their expertise, and support as I navigate these decisions.

Grandma Stevie, and Pat came to visit Jack. He woke up for them briefly, and both were able to hold him a while. It is so nice to see him interacting with people! I love it!  When JR got here after work, they took me out to dinner at a place called Spice in downtown Orlando on Lake Eola. It was a nice little spot. It was nice to get out for a little while, and to know I wasn’t far was good too.

So that is the update, surgery tomorrow, tentatively at noon for our Jack. We are praying for the able hands and minds of our medical team, and the strength in our Jack.
