Well, today my Jack was very fussy all day long after we had
to go NPO. He didn’t appreciate that he couldn’t have something to eat when he
asked for it. Originally the surgery was scheduled for noon, however in order
for Dr. Herrera to join in we had to be pushed back to 430. So…long day. JR was able to be off for the half day to be with us.
The surgery was to clean out the rest of the hip socket, set
his hip, and place the central line for the rest of his IV antibiotic therapy
(16 days). Dr. Levy (general
pediatric therapy) did his Broviac, and that was done within the first half
hour. It took an hour and half for the hip and casting. Dr. Knapp said everything
looks good, and we will wear the cast for about a month. He said the hip is in
place, we are going to have an ultra sound tomorrow to confirm. He said there
really wasn’t a whole lot of fluid in the socket, they cleaned everything out,
and sent cultures. JR and I chose green for the color of the cast, very
conveniently is Seahawk green. Will post a picture later of our super cool
cast.
In recovery Jack was not happy…we had to wait almost a half
hour for a STAT chest xray to confirm the Broviac was in place before giving
him anything to eat or holding him. Jack also likes to hold his breath when he
is really upset, so nurses were watching his oxygen levels very closely with an
ambu bag close by. Not super fun to see as a parent.
We are now back on the floor. He took a 2 oz bottle of
formula with lots of cueing. He also took 1.5 oz of pedilyte before that in
order to make sure he was swallowing correctly. Good thing his mama knows
swallowing J
He is trying to get some rest, but still seems to be in pain. They’ve given him
quite a bit so hopefully it will all kick in soon. I just wanted to update
everyone and let you know our little Prince made it through, and he is so
strong! Definitely living up to his middle name. Thank you for all your
prayers, we are absolutely humbled by the love we are getting. More updates
tomorrow.
Kat, JR, and Jack
