Jack slept very well last night, our longest stretch was 4
hours. Yes, I should be waking him up every 2 to eat, but I feel like he and I
both need to rest some of these nights. Not to mention, JR is 10 ft away and
back at work so he also needs to get some sleep.
Dr. Knapp did come in to round this morning, and he also had
hoped to see more movement in the right leg. He states that he had pretty
intense surgery on that hip and it is possible that Jack is still experiencing
some post surgical pain, he could be guarding it still because that is what he
is used too, or there may be more things going on down there that we were
unaware of originally. He mentioned again that we need to get an ultra sound. He
said we would be doing it on Monday.
In the mean time, I texted a good friend down in Miami for some
suggestion on how I can help him stimulate some movement of that leg. They
actually seem to be working, he is moving it a little, and I get movement and muscle
twitches mostly without protest. So that is hopeful. When Dr. Knapp was in the
room, he mentioned that the bone didn’t “look” like it was effected by the
bacteria, but he also didn’t try to paint a hopeful picture. Like I said
though, we will deal with ambulation issues when the time comes, right now,
lets get this bacteria out so it doesn’t cause anymore damage, and get our baby
home. I have seen such wonderful things come from kiddos who work with PT with
a variety of diagnosis. Even if
his bone was involved, and it doesn’t develop properly, I have faith he will be
fine.
At 10:30, the nurse came in and said, “you were right, they
are sending him for an ultra sound. Transport will be here in 10 minutes.”
Whoa. Ok, so I rushed to get Jack cleaned up (I let him rest after Dr. Knapp
poked around), and gave him a quick bottle. He didn’t like the US that is for
sure. He still seems to have so much pain when someone is manipulating that
leg…I am just at a loss. Of course the tech couldn’t say anything about the
results but we will hear back from Dr. Knapp hopefully before the end of the
day.
At noon, Dr. Knapp returned to let us know that he was
ordering the above ultra sound and a repeat of the lab (CRP?) that measures
inflammation. If those are not good, Jack will have his surgery in the morning.
If it is good, Dr. Knapp will continue to monitor. He said that he has had
cases where it takes weeks for the pain to go away, but he doesn’t like the
fact that Jack still seems to still be in pain and not moving so much. Which I
agree. I don’t like the idea of another surgery, but again, whatever he needs.
Dr. Layham came in later this afternoon let us know that the
blood work was good, but the US was funky. No word yet on what “funky” means.
So now we are waiting until MORNING, to find out if we are having surgery
tomorrow, or what “funky” means.
Then right before dinner the nurses finally came in to take
out his sutures. Love our day nurse, she looked and saw that it probably wasn’t
something she was going to be comfortable with doing. So, she decided to let
the ortho doc (Knapp) do that in the morning. Which is fantastic. I appreciate
her judgment.
Now we are settling down for the night. We have a new nurse,
going to do some eating…and will get to see JR soon.
“I see trees of green….red roses too.
I see them bloom….for me and for you…
And I think to myself….what a wonderful world.”
